Computer Science

The Computer Science program of study focuses on computational thinking, creative problem-solving, coding, and software engineering in today’s digital world to make you marketable in any career you choose. Students completing this pathway and passing associated exams are eligible to receive articulated credits at The University of Delaware, Delaware State University, and Delaware Technical Community College. The pathway will prepare them for high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand jobs.

Exploring Computer Science (Level 1)
Students are introduced to the fundamentals of computer science through hands-on learning and real-world problem solving. Topics include computational thinking, algorithms, digital literacy, and introductory programming.

 

AP Computer Science Principles (Level 2)
Students explore the foundational concepts of computer science, including programming, data analysis, cybersecurity, and the impact of technology on society. Through hands-on projects, students design apps, analyze data, and develop creative solutions to real-world challenges.

 

AP Computer Science A (Level 3)
Students develop advanced programming skills using Java while learning software design, algorithms, debugging, and object-oriented programming. The course prepares students for college-level computer science and careers in software development and technology.

 

Work-Based Learning (Level 4)

Students participate in real-world learning experiences that connect classroom instruction to careers in computer science, software development, information technology, and related digital fields. Through job shadowing, workplace visits, mentorships, industry guest speakers, career preparation activities, collaborative projects, and an internship, students gain firsthand experience with coding, software design, cybersecurity, troubleshooting, and professional workplace practices. Work-based learning helps students strengthen technical, communication, teamwork, creative problem-solving, and project management skills while preparing for industry credentials, postsecondary education, and future careers in technology.

Technology Student Association (TSA)

The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that prepares students for leadership and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Through leadership opportunities, community service, hands-on projects, and technology-related competitive events, students build technical knowledge, creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and career-ready skills while connecting classroom learning to real-world STEM fields. Students may participate in state and national conferences and competitions while developing the skills and confidence needed for future success in college, the workforce, and technology-related careers.
