The Animal Science & Management pathway provides hands-on learning experiences in animal care, production, and management. Students explore animal health, nutrition, genetics, anatomy, reproduction, and basic veterinary practices while developing research, problem-solving, and decision-making skills through classroom, laboratory, and practical experiences.
Foundations of Animal Science (Level 1) Students explore the fundamentals of animal science, including animal care, nutrition, anatomy, breeds, health, and safety. The course introduces leadership, communication, and career opportunities in the animal and agricultural industries.
Growth and Development of Domestic Animals (Level 2) Students study animal growth, genetics, reproduction, nutrition, and management practices used in the animal agriculture industry. Hands-on activities and leadership experiences help students build technical and workplace skills.
Domestic Animal Management (Level 3) Students apply advanced knowledge of animal care and management through hands-on learning experiences focused on health, production, breeding, and industry practices. The course emphasizes leadership, problem-solving, and career readiness in animal and agricultural fields.
Work-Based Learning (Level 4)
Students participate in real-world learning experiences that connect classroom instruction to careers in animal science, veterinary medicine, agriculture, and animal care. Through job shadowing, workplace visits, mentorships, industry guest speakers, career preparation activities, and an internship, students gain firsthand experience with animal care, health, safety, and management practices. Work-based learning helps students strengthen technical, communication, teamwork, professionalism, and problem-solving skills while preparing for industry credentials, postsecondary education, and future careers involving animals and agriculture.
National FFA Organization (FFA)
The National FFA Organization is a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that prepares students for leadership and careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture. Through leadership opportunities, community service, hands-on agricultural experiences, and career and leadership development events, students build technical knowledge, teamwork, communication, and career-ready skills while connecting classroom learning to real-world agricultural industries. Students may participate in local, state, and national conferences and competitions while developing the skills needed for future success in college, the workforce, and agricultural careers.
