The Allied Health pathway prepares students for careers in healthcare as multi-skilled medical professionals. Students learn human body systems while developing hands-on skills in taking vital signs, performing ECGs, using electronic health records (EHR), and completing medical administrative tasks. Students who complete all three levels are eligible to earn the Clinical Medical Assisting (CMA) NHA certification.
Fundamentals of Health Sciences (Level 1) This introductory course explores careers in healthcare while building foundational knowledge in medical terminology, basic anatomy, and healthcare systems. Students develop essential healthcare and employability skills while preparing for the NCHSE National Health Science Assessment and future Health Science coursework.
Essentials of Health Careers (Level 2) This course prepares students to become effective healthcare providers through hands-on learning and advanced study of healthcare careers, patient care, and medical terminology. Students strengthen clinical and employability skills while continuing preparation for future Health Science and Anatomy & Physiology courses.
Anatomy and Physiology (Level 3) This DTCC course focuses on the structure and function of the human body and serves as the final level of the Allied Health pathway. Students engage in laboratory activities, dissections, and hands-on investigations while developing a deeper understanding of body systems and healthcare applications.
Work-Based Learning (Level 4)
Students participate in real-world learning experiences that connect classroom instruction to careers in healthcare and allied health professions. Through job shadowing, clinical observations, mentorships, industry guest speakers, career preparation activities, and an internship, students gain firsthand experience in healthcare settings and learn about professional responsibilities, patient care, safety procedures, and workplace expectations. Work-based learning helps students strengthen communication, teamwork, professionalism, and problem-solving skills while preparing for industry certifications, postsecondary education, and future careers in healthcare.
HOSA–Future Health Professionals
HOSA–Future Health Professionals is an international Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that prepares students for leadership and careers in healthcare and health science. Through leadership opportunities, community service, hands-on experiences, and health-related competitive events, students build technical knowledge, teamwork, communication, and career-ready skills while connecting classroom learning to real-world healthcare professions. Students may participate in state and international conferences and competitions while developing the skills and confidence needed for future success in college, the workforce, and the global health community.
